Previously being in the fitness industry, Lisa from In Motion Fitness, and I go way back! My favorite thing about her, (that you don’t find often in the fitness industry) is her constant “community over competition”. What made you start or brought you where you are today ? Tell us your Story. What makes you a Buffalo Boss Babe?
I was a certified elementary teacher who grew up as a competitive gymnast, softball and volleyball player, and also a college basketball player. If I wasn’t at practice I was usually jumping on my trampoline or running relay races for fun with my dad, sisters and neighborhood friends. I was recruited in my local gym to be a personal trainer when they needed help. Since my brother had pursued training and my good friend was a trainer, I decided I would try it because it seemed like it was in my blood- I liked helping people feel good and it was still teaching, just a different age group! After a serious health scare, I realized life is short and being unable to be active and feel good is something I want to avoid again at all costs. As cliche as it sounds, I realized how grateful I was for what my body could do and I wanted others to feel the same. However, it would take me nearly a decade to truly appreciate my body and find a healthy blend of food, fitness and self love. After about a year at a box gym I got a place to train with my trainer friend in Orchard Park. When my training partner moved to Cali, I trained out of my basement until I took a leap of faith (with a nudge from my other half) to pursue training full time and opened my own studio across the street from my original one in 2012. While it was the first of eventually many fitness facilities to pop up, it remains almost 11 years later. I named it In Motion Fitness because I believe life should be lived… in motion. In Motion has a mission to be a place where my clients WANT to come to pursue their health goals. I want to make it enjoyable and impactful because consistency breeds results. I specialize in personal training and small group training where my clients can trust our relationship and fall in love with feeling good. As a recovered yoyo dieter, and a mom to my favorite little boy, when I addressed my health as actual health and not just how many pounds can we lose on the scale, I found my passion; My message has morphed into my speciality of helping my clients find their HAPPIEST PHYSIQUE, ya know, the one where you can be proud of your body but also enjoy living your life without obsession.

Tell us about your favorite collaboration or dream collaborations ?
Locally, I would love to fill Highmark stadium for an inspiring, sweaty, feel good workout. Growing up going to the stadium where my dad was a past scout for the Buffalo Bills when I was born and where I also competed in the regional punt, pass and kick competition as a young girl, it has an energy that I would soak up. It would feel like home to me. But thanks to my son, I would also love to collaborate with YouTube sensations, @dudeperfect. They are a successful, funny, talented and much respected group of guys who I am happy to spend quality family time watching before bed. We laugh together so much and they inspire all of us to be creative, persistent and have a high level of character.
If you could have coffee with anyone in the world who would it be?
Pink, Jessica Simpson, Dude Perfect, Hoda Kotb
What are your hopes, dreams, goals. Big or small?
My goal is to continue to inspire women to find and exude their worth and confidence in their life, to not spend it comparing themselves to others and to not miss out on life activities because of how they feel about their body. I hope that women can look to me and see that fitness can fit into your life without being your life, and see that healthy isn’t a certain weight or size and neither is happiness. Your body is your vehicle to get to experience life and we can treat it well instead of trying to punish it into changing because honestly, it doesn’t last. I hope women can see that food can be delicious, celebratory and not off limits. Life changes when we no longer limit our life. My fitness message is not the mainstream message of eat less, move more, have weekly weigh-ins with me, track your calories, do my 30 day challenge and hope something sticks. It was a risk to veer off that path but I believe in examining and changing our thoughts and our behaviors ABOUT our health to truly change our health. So my big goal is to have a bigger platform to just keep putting this message out there. For the teens I train, for my nieces and nephews, and for my current and future clients. Your happiest physique is available to you and it does not have to come from a place of misery, but quite the opposite. And finally, I hope my son sees the gym beyond just a fun place to go play and practice basketball ☺️ But as a symbol of betting on yourself because you know… you’ll always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
Tell us about your family?
My family is everything to me. I live with my fiancé, David and our 3.5 year old firecracker, Colton. He keeps us moving and laughing in the best possible ways. We love to go for family walks, shoot hoops and turn everything into a “trick shot.” His zest for life keeps everything new and exciting again for us. Life through a child’s eyes is like no other. My mom and dad are some of my best friends and role models, especially when it comes to leading an active lifestyle and putting family first. My mom is a cancer survivor and her strength inspired me to spread my “less popular” message about health and fitness by opening my eyes to the fact that health is absolutely more than a goal weight. I have several clients who are cancer survivors as well and they all helped teach me that “weight loss” is not a true motivator nor indicator of your best health. We must be strong, in mind and body, and we must be HERE. Life is not to be lived on a scale but with those we love. So my family is why I do what I do. For all of us, for all of my clients, to be here with them in our healthiest, happiest way.
