What made you start or brought you where you are today ? Tell us your Story. What makes you a Buffalo Boss Babe?
When my husband and I moved to downtown Buffalo in 2012, we were the first tenants in the newly restored Hotel Lafayette. People thought we were crazy for living downtown! The old mindset of how Buffalo was lingered with people and we felt compelled to share our experiences and adventures with others so they could become educated as to the renaissance that was occurring. As Buffalo boomerangs, we didn't know anyone when we moved back to the area and we wanted to make connections and make a difference in our community. So became 'Buffalovebirds' - a social platform and blog that gave insight to our life and the great things happening around the city! It has grown rapidly and today, I build partnerships and relationships with local businesses and people throughout WNY. And this is only our 'fun job'! Besides my day job, I am also a Mommy and Adjunct Professor in World Music. When I have a breather, I still perform as a classically trained flutist with orchestras, pits, and for private events.
What does being a Buffalo Boss Babe mean to you?
Someone that inspires! My hope is always to spark interest, give back to my community through our storytelling and education of our region, and juggling it all with every day life.
Who are your favorite people to follow ?
I love @CaralynMirand! She is a Buffalo gal who is an international curve model! She is real, funny, kind, and transparent. I have mega respect for people like that.
What are your favorite things to do in the area ? Buffalo and greater WNY
Explore NEW places like restaurants, shops, museums, restored buildings, new street murals...I love learning about the people behind the businesses, too! As a family, we love going to Chestnut Ridge, getting brunch at The Grange, and taking Chloe to our arts & culturalβs.
Tell us about your favorite collaboration or dream collaborations ?
That is a tough one because we have so many collaborations we have loved so far! A dream would be to have us put together collaborative events with local businesses we love- one day soon! I feel like every month we have a dream collaboration come true because we are growing so quickly.
If you could have coffee with anyone in the world who would it be?
My Grandma Sargent. She's not here anymore but I would so want to catch up with her, have her meet my husband and baby, and have her tell me some dirty jokes. She was a trouble-maker! :)
What are your hopes, dreams, goals. Big or small?
I am always aiming to be better in anything I do whether it is in my education career, my music, or Buffalovebirds. I am a life-long learner and I understand I need to grow every day.
Tell us about your family?
My husband Beau and I have been together since 2011 and married since 2015. We both grew up in Niagara County! (he, Lockport; me, Newfane) He is actually the one that thought to start Buffalovebirds, believe it or not. We were married at the Hotel Lafayette in the Crystal Ballroom and we threw the big party at Larkin Square with the Hot Club of Buffalo and food trucks. We found a spot we loved in Orchard Park and built our home which we now love relaxing at (when we have a hot minute!) and working on our landscaping. We're only 15 minutes from the heart of the city! We have a two year old, Chloe, who is the happiest and most fun little person. A baby boy will arrive July 2019 in our wolf pack! Things are about to get crazier. :)
