Buffalo Boss Babe: Heather Sprague
Today's Buffalo Boss Babe is Heather Sprague the owner behind one of the best shops around, Beulah’s General Store located on charming Main St. in East Aurora. Do you know know those people you meet in your life that you are just drawn too. Heather is exactly that person! When I met her the first time it was a "did we just become best friends moment. We chatted with heather about life and so much more!
What made you start or brought you to where you are today? Tell us your story and what makes you a Buffalo Boss Babe.
I had a career riding horses that ended abruptly after an accident in 2004, I was pretty badly injured and needed a lot of time to recover. I met my husband during that recovery. We started our family and I had the privilege to stay home and raise them for 10 years. As the saying goes though “If you sense there must be more, there is more”. The idea for Beulah’s was really me being ready for the next chapter. We live here in East Aurora, and I had a vision for what could be. I saw opportunities to bring my ideas and dreams to life and more importantly I saw voids in the marketplace that I knew I could creatively fill. Its still an evolving process and I love the adventure.
Who are your favorite people to follow?
Brene Brown, Tony Robbins, I love Shark Tank, and Jimmy Fallon
What are your favorite things to do in the area (Buffalo and greater WNY)?
I love eating and we have some of the best eats here in Buffalo! Big Buffalo Bills fan, so football games are up there on my list. I love the energy of live music and we have so many cool venues here in Buffalo.
Tell me about your favorite collaborations or a dream collaboration?
I get to collaborate so much right now, its honestly one of my favorite parts of the job. Meeting both local artisans and big corporations and having the ability to work with them in creating pieces, whether its clothing, jewelry, pottery, soaps, furniture the list goes on. Bringing our ideas together, using their talents and my platform has been extremely rewarding. The better I get to know my customers the more I can tweak ideas to be the perfect fit. My dream collaboration though, actually took place while building this business. Both building out the space and working out the business model for Beulah’s General Store. Although we collaborated on a family, home and 3 amazing kids, working with my husband professionally was on my list. Kody (my husband) is a commercial developer and home builder and has incredible vision and patience (which he needed).
If you could have coffee with anyone in the world who would it be?
Tony Robbins
What are your hopes, dreams, goals? Big or Small.
I want to raise good kids, I hope they will be strong, kind and brave people. I especially want my daughter to know the sky is the limit. I am back in the horse world as of recently, so I have some big plans to revisit the goals I had for myself that I had to set aside for awhile
